When the Work of God Scares You
INTRODUCTION: So God made a way for them to go back to Jerusalem to build His house again. He provided them the resources through the king, the people of Babylon, and the gifts of the people themselves. We find in v. 3 that they were doing the things that they did because fear was upon them because of the people of those countries around them. You see there were no walls for the city yet. The people of the area did not like them before and certainly not now that they are trying to build their nation again. They were vulnerable and they were afraid, and rightly so. We will learn about people in future sermons that wanted to stop this work at all costs. They were afraid to stay in that place and do the work that God wanted them to do on the temple. So look at what they did when they were afraid. You should be just like them when the work of God scares you. Sometimes God commands you to do things that take you out of our comfort zone, maybe even some things that really scare you. Here is what you should do.
- OBEY GOD (VS. 1-5)
- GIVE YOUR ALL TO GOD (VS. 6-7)
- GET BUSY DOING WHAT GOD WOULD HAVE YOU TO DO (VS. 8-9)
- WORSHIP GOD AS HE SHOWS HIS GREATNESS (VS. 10-13)
CONCLUSION: The whole book of Ezra shows us God’s power to overcome the obstacles that we face as human beings. You see, you are not strong enough to do God’s work. You are scared to do some of the things that God calls upon you to do. But if God orders work done, He will do everything that is necessary to make it come to pass. Scared or not you must obey God. You must give all that you have to Him. You must get busy doing what God would have you to do. You must worship God when He comes through in the end.
