Ezra 1:1-11

God Provides for His Work

INTRODUCTION:  We saw at the end of 2 Kings that it was God’s judgment that brought the people of Judah down to the Babylon area.  They were taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon.  Now it is seventy years later.  The Persians have taken over that land of Babylon.  God has decided it is time for His people to return to their land and rebuild the temple there.  This is work that God wants done at this particular time.  It could not have happened earlier than this.  This was the time that God appointed for His people to go back and build His house in Jerusalem again.  So, He prepared everything for His people to do His work.  Today, in our time we are trying to do the work of God.  We want to do the work of God in His timing, because when we do God’s work in God’s time, He will provide for it.  As we do God’s work in God’s time we should trust Him in three areas.  God will provide:

  1. THE WAY TO DO THE WORK (VS. 1-4)
  2. THE DESIRE TO DO THE WORK (V. 5)
  3. THE RESOURCES TO DO THE WORK (VS. 6-11)

CONCLUSION:  Who is going to do great work at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church?  Who is going to do great work in your life?  You see when God gets ready for great things to happen in His work, He is going to provide for those great things.  You see, Judah sat desolate for those 70 years while these people were in captivity.  God never did anything about it, because it was not His time.  When the time came, He provided.  Do you trust God to do that in your work for Him today?  Do you know without doubt that when God gets ready to do a great work that He will provide the way, the desire in the hearts of the people and the resources to do that work?  I’m looking forward to what the future holds in my life and in the life of our church.
