II Kings 25:22-30
How to Be Destroyed
INTRODUCTION: Here we touch on the last group of people left in Israel. Remember the northern kingdom was taken captive by Assyria many years ago. Now all of the important people in the southern kingdom have either been captured and carried to Babylon or executed. The very poorest and lowliest of people are left and they could have stayed alive and lived out their days, but they made some bad choices so that they too were destroyed and exiled. Their choices mirror that of all of Israel. This pattern has been going on in Israel for a long time. This is it, this is the last chance for anybody in Israel. We can see from the bad decisions they made how we can get ourselves in trouble. So we are going to look at three ways to make sure that you are destroyed.
- REFUSING TO LISTEN TO GODLY ADVICE (VS. 22-24)
- LACK OF RESPECT FOR GOD’S LEADERS (V. 25)
(Where we find this family the most is in the reign of Josiah-Shaphan was a scribe, Ahikam his son helped Josiah in cleaning up the temple and finding the law of God, Jeremiah the prophet of God lived with Gadaliah during this time period)
3.NOT BELIEVING THE WORD OF GOD (V. 26)
(Read Jeremiah 42:1-18 to show God’s word, In Jeremiah 44 we find God talking to them after they ran to Egypt and reaffirming this judgment)
CONCLUSION: vs. 27-30 show the king Jehoachin in Babylon. What a gracious God after all that has been done and the judgment that He has poured out to allow this king to live out his days in luxury. The book ends that way. With God showing His graciousness to someone that did not deserve it. As if to say, this story of Israel is not over. And we know that it is not. But for the time being, they are desolate, destroyed, taken captive because they refused to listen to Godly advice, they did not respect the leaders that God put in place to help them, and they did not believe the word of God. Don’t make those same mistakes.
