Be a Great Person
INTRODUCTION: There are only three verses here in this last chapter of the story of Esther. This is the “happily ever after” section. Here in this section it talks about the king and all the mighty things that he did that are written in the records of the kings of Persia. The story ends though with the proclamation of Mordecai as a great man. This term is used of him throughout the end of the book of Esther. He was “great.” What made him so great? We learn from this short passage what it takes to be a great person.
I. WAIT TO BE ADVANCED BY OTHERS (V. 2)
II. BE HUMBLE EVEN IN GREATNESS (V. 3A)
III. PUT THE NEEDS OF OTHERS BEFORE YOURSELF (V. 3B)
CONCLUSION: Do you want to be great? Look what Jesus said in Mark 9:35 “If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.” You see greatness in God’s eyes is not something that you try to be. If someone wants to be great they should strive to be humble and serve others. When you try to help others to be lifted up then you will be great in the eyes of God and that is the only greatness you should ever desire, greatness in the eyes of God.
