How to Make the Wrong Choices
INTRODUCTION:As we begin this study of the book of Esther I want you to realize that everything that transpired in this book was the hand of God at work. In this book, God is never mentioned but I cannot imagine a book of the Bible where God’s presence is more obvious. God was in control of the entire situation. In this book there were a lot of good choices made for the honor and glory of God and for the good of God’s people. But before all of that we are going to talk about a series of choices that the King Ahasuerus makes in this first chapter. He was not a godly king and he made a lot of wrong choices for the wrong reasons. Im afraid we make choices based on some of the same things that Ahasuerus did, and the choices that you make like this will end in the same disaster that his choices did. So tonight we are going to look at four things that you should never base your choices on.
- BASED ON PRIDE (VS. 1-11)
- BASED ON ANGER (V. 12)
- BASED ON SPECULATIVE FEAR (VS. 13-18)
- BASED ON PEER PRESSURE (VS. 19-22)
CONCLUSION: There is absolutely nothing wrong with the stance that Vashti took. She did not want to be treated as an object for drunk men to desire. Ahasuerus made the wrong choices and loses a strong queen as a result. We see his regret at this choice in the very first verse of the next chapter. The king remembered Vashti and what he had done to her. He showed us how not to make choices. Never make choices based on pride. Never make choices based on anger. Never make choices based on fear of something that has not happened. Never make choices based on what everybody else says.
