(Read vs. 28-39)
Commitment to God
INTRODUCTION: We saw last week that the children of Israel entered into a covenant or contract with God where all of the important people in the nation that had come back sealed it or signed it. We find out here that there was a blessing involved in this contract if they kept it and a curse if they failed to hold up their end of the contract. The terms of the commitment that they made with God are the subject of this chapter. The chapter begins with twenty-seven verses of the names of the rulers, priests and Levites that signed the covenant that was written. This is a commitment that God’s people should make to their God even today. If you are saved, then you are one of God’s people. I hope tonight that you will make these same commitments.
- TO DO GOD’S WORD (VS. 28-29)
- TO SEPARATE THEMSELVES FROM THE WORLD (VS. 30-31)
- TO SUPPORT THE HOUSE OF GOD (VS. 32-39)
CONCLUSION: I mentioned last week that commitment is the thing that we are lacking in our church and everywhere else where the work of God is suppose to be done. You as a person of God need to commit to do the things that are in God’s word. You need to commit to separate yourself from the world. You need to commit to support the house of God. Then and only then, can God do a great work among us.
